Driver fined $900 for crash

CORI Castle had worked a 12-hour night shift when he fell asleep at the wheel, crashing his Commodore into a parked car, then ploughing through a steel fence.

The apprentice boilermaker was heading for home when the crash happened on April 10 at Boyne Island.

Prosecutor Snr Const Sam Pyke told Gladstone Magistrates Court the vehicle mounted a kerb, knocked over a road sign then struck a parked vehicle, with the impact turning it 180 degrees.

Magistrate Mark Morrow said that by driving when fatigued and falling asleep at the wheel, Castle had ended up causing a lot of property damage.

Mr Morrow fined Castle $900 and took no action on his licence.
